ANSA - EILDON CONVENTION 2015
Club members recently ventured to Eildon to try their luck and see what the Pondage had on offer. Weather predictions were looking good. Saturday - light to moderate winds with a foggy, cold morning ( zero ) and Sunday - sunny with light winds.
Whilst travelling to our destination Members were busily hatching their plan of attack. What side of the Pondage to fish at... Do we use Mudeyes under a float... How about some Power bait and if so, what "flavour"... What about a few flicks here and there... At the same time strategically planning their "teams".
Most members stayed in the Eildon Pondage Holiday Park where cabins were at a premium due to several other clubs also fishing the ANSA Convention. Our clubs representation was solid with approx. 13 members having a crack...
Some of our members just couldn't wait for the convention to commence. So late Friday afternoon they were seen "sneaking" away to wet the line. Not long after his first cast Wayne (can't get the smile of his face) Zita hooked up to a nice Rainbow weighing in at 2.14kg. Hey Wayne to much to soon buddy !!!!
If you tried to sleep-in Saturday morning you had no chance as everyone was busy getting ready to execute their plan of attack. At 5.30 am members were already at the waters edge marking their territory and setting their lines.
Voices echoed across the Pondage in the still foggy conditions and you couldn't miss the laugh of our illustrious secretary - Charlie Zammit.
Many say he scared the fish away .... ha ha ha.
Some found landing a fish very tough. Others had no trouble at all... albeit they were members of the other clubs. It didn't seem to effect the old warrior - Nick Falzon. He had no trouble wrestling a Rainbow of 2.135kg onto the bank. The bush telegraph was abuzz with lots of hard luck stories. After a hard day at the office we all meet at the Convention BBQ Saturday night.
You could tell who had landed a fish and who hadn't. The ones that did were smiling and the one that didn't were pleading their case and drowning their sorrows. You could not help but notice Darren Wloch (ANSA President) acting out how he dropped a couple fish and that it wasn't his fault. Our members might not have had much luck with the fishing side of things but we really cleaned up in the raffles that night at the BBQ - prizes for everyone . Some had an early night but others went on to indulge in a little swig of Port and discuss the next sessions fishing, before bed.
An early start Sunday morning was evident by all the lights around the Pondage well before dawn. Fishing was fast and furious but tough with only a few Trout landed. They say some members have all the luck with Joanne Gusman coaxing a lovely 1.8 kg Rainbow into the her net. And as usual Brad Gusman
(President) took all the accolades. Nick Falzon was again on the money with another 2+ kg Rainbow. Not to be out done our own Johnny G. Greszczuk used all his skills to hook and land a magnificent 2.859kg Brown. Congratulations goes to John who went on to win the 2015 Eildon Convention being the highest point scoring senior with 142.95 points. Although our club "teams" didn't bother the judges we still had a shinning light in Johnny G.
There were lots of "bad luck" stories mentioned at the Sunday sausage sizzle with several of our members collecting "donuts" and then going off and kicking a footy to rid their frustrations. Rumour has it that some members have vowed to take up fishing lessons and perform much better next time out ..ha ha ha. All in all a wonderful weekend was had and thanks to the members that fished the convention and making our club proud.
See you at next years Eildon Convention.
Cheers Vic P

Club Snapper Comp
Well this past weekend WSGC held our club snapper competition. Although we have other comps within the next 4 weeks against other clubs this one is always good because it let's us have a bit of fun and keep it all in house. Was great to see everyone get out and about. Firstly a big congratulations to Charlie Zammit for catching the winning fish! His fish went 5.32kg and was caught on 2kg line giving him 266 points. For those of you who are not familiar with WSGC we fish line ...class and calculate points under the Australian National Sportfishing Association system. Charlie is a very humble winner and stressed that he wanted to thank John Greszczuk for calling him in on the fish. Well done guys!!!!
Also a big thank you should go to Tim Drewry for manning the weigh station over the weekend.
In a couple of weeks time we take on Royal Victorian Motor Yacht Club and I know for sure this event is highly regarded on our yearly calender.

ANSA Convention - Lake Purrumbete
11 Club members fished the Purrumbete Convention this weekend. A well done to the Melton SFC for arranging great weather for the weekend and quite a few fish too. Congratulations to Southern Boat FC who won the Seniors & to Ballarat S&GFC who took out the Juniors. Also to ex-Willy club member (now with Melton) Peter Thorpe for a magnificent 4.3Kg Brown Trout.
Most club members stayed at the Cobden Angling Club rooms at Lake Elingamite (many thanks to Trevor Beckerleg from ...the Otway S&GFC for arranging the accom & also putting up with us over the weekend) and fished here also with the odd good Brown & Rainbow Trout and a lone Chinook Salmon.
A big well done to Todd Gusman who landed a great Brown of 2Kg+ to take out the Sub-Junior Boys Champion. Our Junior Team were also just a whisker away from winning but had to settle for second.
Unfortunately the attached photos were of fish Nick Falzon and I caught Friday afternoon - before the comp! Although we did manage a few more that did count which saw the club fair pretty well - probably in the top 3 or 4 but we won't get the official results for a few weeks.
